A bit late but I have finally found a few minutes to write a short post looking at Aquamarine - the birthstone for March.
Aquamarine gets its name from the Latin aqua marina meaning "sea water" and is the colour of the sea. It is a pale blue - green variety of beryl. It measures 7.5 - 8 on the Mohs hardness scale. It is mined in China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Brazil Colombia, several countries in Africa and in the U.S.A.
Aquamarine was believed to have been treasured by mermaids.
it is considered a soothing stone and the Ancient Romans used for good luck and protection while at sea. It was also thought to provide energy.
I currently have a couple of pieces of aquamarine jewellery available on my website -
