Do bead bracelets break?
This is a question that I get asked quite frequently at craft fairs and I answer as honestly as I can, In my experience no item of beaded jewellery is guaranteed or expected to last forever.
Saying that I often see people wearing my jewellery and sometimes those pieces are more than twenty years old and are still going strong!
But what about my bead bracelets, can they be worn all the time?
I was asked this earlier this year and my answer was "I wouldn't advise you to sleep with them on or shower etc." as I always take my bracelets off at the end of each day so I really wasn't sure if they would actually survive that type of wear. It then occurred to me that I really should find out. So I made a set of three bracelets, on fine silk beading thread with gold plate clasps, three months ago that set of theee later became a set of four, the idea being that they would stay on my wrist until they broke.
They are still on my wrist and summer is almost over!
I have slept wearing them every night. I have showered and washed my hair wearing them. I have worn them in the wilds of Scotland being battered by waves, wind and rain on a boating holiday around the Hebrides, and sweated in the heatwaves here in the UK and over in Spain. They have not been removed from my wrists once in those three months and they seem to still have plenty of days, weeks maybe even months to go.
So now I know the answer to the question, can you wear my bracelets all the time?
They probably won’t last forever but you should get several months wear with them!
